Journalist. Presenter. Legend.
Mike Munro is a home-grown legend. He came from nowhere and has gone everywhere in his remarkable life, both literally and figuratively.
Having grown up in a Marist monastery as the only child of a single mother, Mike Munro started his journey in journalism as copy boy in Sydney newspapers at 17. After several years of working for newspapers, he was posted by Rupert Murdoch to Newscorp’s New York bureau as a foreign correspondent. This took him to every corner of the globe, interviewing some of the world’s most famous and infamous people.
On return, Munro reported for Willesee and 60 Minutes before becoming a host of A Current Affair and Sunday Night. He later joined Foxtel and has recently created a series of documentaries for the History Channel.
One is a four-part documentary series based on his best-selling book entitled The Last Bushrangers – a true story about Patrick and Jimmy Kenniff, Munro’s great uncles. In fact, Munro’s name is not actually Munro, but an 80-year family secret and an illegal name change to distance the family from the bushrangers.
In 2014, Munro was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to journalism and charity work. Mike is an inspiring speaker and sought after for his uniquely personal This is your Life presentations.
