Mindy Woods – Out and About

Food. It’s a powerful centrepiece to almost every culture around the globe, but also a source of great inequality and waste. Somebody who understands this disjunction better than most is Mindy Woods. A chef and proud Bundalung Widjabul Wia Bul woman, Mindy is passionate about native food, sustainability and connection and sharing her knowledge with others. We are thrilled to welcome her to the team as an exclusive speaker!

As a MasterChef 2012 finalist and former CEO of Sydney’s Lotus Dining Group, Mindy really knows her way around a kitchen. Now also armed with the wisdom of her sustainable horticulture studies, this resourceful environmentalist has been able to focus all efforts into her passion project. Her native-ingredient inspired Byron Bay restaurant Karkalla embodies a vision – to create opportunities for everybody to connect with both Aboriginal culture, each other, and the environment. And what better way to do that than through unique, delicious food!

Mindy’s talks never fail to fascinate. Her knowledge and experience shine through in everything she does, from running a successful business, to cultural connection and sustainability. Her message is truly inspiring and universal, as a recent guest chef invitation for the Dubai World Expo in November 2021 proves. This opportunity to cook and represent Australia – and importantly, native indigenous food, is one Mindy is exceptionally well suited to, and we couldn’t be prouder.

It’s a joy to share her passion for food as a powerful tool for connection with both each other and the environment. It’s a pleasure to have you in the ranks of ICMI’s exclusive speakers Mindy.
