Watching McKenney sing, dance and banter with the crowd, you can understand why the producers postponed the opening until his recovery. It is impossible to imagine anyone else in the role. He is Peter Allen.
The versatile McKenney is sensational as the heroic showman! When he sings, prances, hoofs it our with the Rockettes at Radio City or cavorts on the white grand piano in a mirror ball style jacket, McKenney easily persuades us that Allen is back from the dead and up where he rightfully belongs.
Todd McKenney plays the star and is the star. This is a bravura performance. His singing voice is ideally suited to Peter Allen’s songs – assured and strong. He moves with Allen’s loose-limbed ease and prodigious energy. He creates a character with all Allen’s sunniness and bounding ego – the public and familiar persona. He plays the private Allen with a convincing vulnerability that stops well short of sentimentality. Perhaps the greatest joy of McKenney’s performance is that while he is entirely plausible, he doesn’t merely impersonate Allen.
Excellent. Todd was a fabulous performer. The crowd loved him. He was lovely to work with.

Todd was the perfect entertainment for the event. He was relaxed, comfortable and read the crowd perfectly. His performance was great. I would definitely use Todd again at another Mallesons event.
