Nornie Bero is the executive chef and business owner of Mabu Mabu and Big Esso by Mabu Mabu. Originally from Mer Island, in the Torres Strait, Nornie has been a professional chef for over 20 years. Her mission is to introduce First Nations ingredients into kitchens across Australia. Her philosophy is that if we use native ingredients, it's better for the environment, better for the land, and better for all of us in general.

Nornie is passionate about putting her island and culture on the map and showcasing the delicious cuisine. In fact, all her recipes pay tribute to the people of this land, not only representing herself and her community but over 65,00 years of food culture across this country.

Bero's passion for sharing First Nations cuisine with the world extends beyond being an innovative executive chef and restauranteur. By serving as a Coles ambassador, writing for Delicious Mag, and appearing on a range of TV shows, she passionately promotes native Australian ingredients and her Mer Island culture. She also provides professional development workshops and professional development for schools around healthy eating and preserving native foods through the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.
