Getting to Know Brian Nankervis
Brian Nankervis has been keeping Aussie’s entertained for over four decades. From writing and performing to hosting radio and MCing big events, he’s a man of many talents and one we’re stoked to have at ICMI. Here we take a closer look at his storied career and what he’s up to these days.
From Classrooms to TV
Brian has had a whirlwind career that’s hard to pick a single highlight from, according to him. This includes six years of teaching, doing radio at Triple R, playing an eccentric beat poet on Hey Hey It’s Saturday or a doctor on satirical soapy Let the Blood Run Free. He was also a regular for TV studio warm ups for Thank God You’re Here and The Panel.
What he’s most well known for, however, is being the co-creator and co-host of RocKwiz, which was held in the heart of St Kilda at the legendary Espy. The show also toured around Australia and at festivals like Splendour in the Grass. While wrapping up in 2016, it did make an 8 episode comeback on Foxtel in 2023. The gang also puts together the odd event, like RocKwiz’s Really Really Good Friday at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall earlier this year in March.
Hosting Radio Shows and Professional Events
Brian keeps himself busy in the world of radio and on the speaker circuit. He currently co-hosts The Friday Revue on ABC Radio Melbourne, which features everything from live music and comedy to some quizzes, of course. He also hosts Songs and Stories on ABC Radio, where he invites two special guests to curate a playlist and chat about the personal significance of the songs.
As a professional MC, Brian is a highly experienced, hilarious and brilliantly clever entertainer who knows how to moderate a variety of different proceedings. He has a special knack for knowing how every audience ticks, keeping them engaged and entertained every time.
