Ariarne Titmus BlogPost

Ariarne Titmus has once again dazzled the world with her extraordinary talent and determination, clinching the gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the women’s 400m freestyle. This remarkable victory also makes her the second Australian woman to successfully defend an Olympic title, following in the illustrious footsteps of the legendary Dawn Fraser, who achieved this feat back in 1964.

With a jaw-dropping display of skill and determination, her electrifying performance not only splashed pride all over Australia but also added another glittering gold medal to Australia’s collection in the pool. Her efforts helped Australia reach the top spot on the overall medals table after day one in Paris. Ariarne’s victory is a shining testament to her dedication and hard work. We’re all so proud of Ariarne, congratulations!

Following in the Footsteps of Dawn Fraser

Leading from the start, Ariarne blitzed her rivals, clocking three minutes 57.49 seconds to win comfortably from Canadian teen Summer McIntosh (3:58.37) and legendary American Katie Ledecky (4:00.86). After winning, she was in visible disbelief at becoming the second Australian woman swimmer to hold onto her Olympic crown, following in the footsteps of the legendary Dawn Fraser, who was watching from the grandstands.

Cementing Her Greatness as an Olympic Icon

Australia’s golden girl and queen of the pool, this latest gold medal comes off the back of Ariarne’s stunning debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where she racked up two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

This was followed by another clean sweep at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she earned 4 gold medals in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 4x200m Freestyle relay. In 2023, Ariarne reclaimed the World Record for the 400m Freestyle in 3:56.40 at the World Aquatics Championships, a record she continues to hold today. It’s hard to doubt that Ariarne has cemented her greatness with this latest victory.

A Winning Personality

After winning, Ariarne described herself as “just the same old goofy Tassie girl living out her dream”, a testament to her humble, endearing and passionate personality that makes her such a popular figure in and out of the pool.

As a speaker for ICMI, she is always shown to be an articulate and insightful person every audience enjoys listening to. She relishes in her responsibility as a role model to future generations, with her passion extending beyond swimming to cooking, health and wellness, and exercise and sports science.
