ICMI Speakers are thrilled to be able to congratulate two of our most in-demand speakers for the recognition of their achievements in the Order of Australia Awards that were announced yesterday.

Firstly, Paralympian, tennis champion, disability advocate and ICMI exclusive speaker Dylan Alcott AO has just been named our new Australian of the Year!  We want to extend our warmest congratulations to Dylan, it is an honour very well deserved and his humble charisma and good humour was clearly evident in his acceptance speech delivered yesterday:

“I thought I was no chance until I got here and I saw this really good looking ramp. And I thought – I might have a chance here.”

With the crowd erupting with applause, he went on to deliver his heart-wrenching story of how he overcame the challenges that life presented, to not only accept his situation, but to view his life and circumstances as the greatest gift.

So again, congratulations Dylan, and best of luck in your Australian Open Final being played this afternoon! Dylan is one of Australia’s most renowned athletes and speakers, and with this proving to being one of his biggest years ever, make your event even more memorable by harnessing the high level of public interest in this captivating man.

Secondly, we also want to extend our congratulations to Professor Veena Sahajwalla, Founding Director of the Centre of Sustainable Materials Research and Technology at UNSW for winning the NSW Australian of the Year. Professor Sahajwalla, an Australian Research Council laureate, launched the world’s first e-waste microfactory in 2018 and then a plastics microfactory the following year. There is no speaker more relevant to present on the key issues in sustainability, and the need for business, government and individuals to take action in order to make an impact.

The team at ICMI couldn’t be prouder of these two exceptional speakers and all the exceptional work they have done throughout their careers.
