- Beyond the Baton: Leadership through the eyes of a Conductor
Award winning Australian Conductor Jessica Gethin discusses different styles of leadership and high performance teams using the metaphor of a conductor and their symphony orchestra. From the technical and logistical aspects of micro managing rehearsals to the psychology of how to get the best out each individual performer on the day, Jessica uses her experience on the podium to explore leadership through this unique and traditional art form.
- Diversity in Harmony
A symphony orchestra performance can be incredible when everyone is playing together in harmony, but if one musician plays out of time or tune it can ruin the performance. Australian conductor Jessica Gethin uses the symphony orchestra as a powerful analogy to show the importance of embracing diversity within organisations.
- Conductor in Converse
Australian conductor Jessica Gethin uses an orchestra rehearsal process as the perfect example to show how teamwork, leadership, setting a clear vision, collaboration, diversity, and role clarity within the orchestra mirrors the business environment. Participates are invited to sit on stage within a real chamber orchestra to observe first-hand the unique non-verbal relationship between a conductor and their musicians as they discover a piece of symphonic music together.
The conference was a success with the APEx Board and members advising us on several occasions that it was one of the best conferences they have attended… Part of this is thanks to you for keeping the conference running to time. We cannot thank you enough for being our MC.
