Biography
Leslie Cannold is passionate, intelligent, and, overall, impressive. She specializes in several presentation topics, including ethics, levelling the playing field for women, reaching today’s youth through social media, and creating a positive image in the press.
One of Australia’s most well-known journalists, rights-activists and public speakers, Leslie has built her career on a passion for challenging current practices, laws, and human morality. Her long and illustrious career is best summarised by two awards from 2011: the Australian Humanist of the Year and the EVA award for responsible media reporting.
At her core, Leslie is a journalist and writer, currently penning a regular column for the Sydney Sun-Herald titled Moral Dilemma, as well as columns for publications such as The Age, Crikey!, The Herald Sun, the ABC, The Drum Unleashed, The Courier Mail, and The Australian. Leslie is also a well-known radio and television journalist, appearing on ABC Radio National, Triple J, Today Tonight, the 7:30 Report, A Current Affair. In addition to all of these, she has also made regular appearances on the popular morning show 9am with David & Kim, as well as Lateline, Q&A, SBS Insight, , The Catch-Up, and the Einstein Factor. Currently, Leslie maintains spots on two radio stations: 702 ABC Sydney and Brisbane Radio 4BC.
Her vast experience in reporting current events and providing commentary on national and world-wide issues has earned Leslie a position as the resident ethicist for Network Ten’s The 7PM Project, and her drive to give back to her community has led her to work as a mentor for students of the University of Melbourne, specifically in the Writing Centre for Scholars and Researchers department. She has also co-founded No Chicks No Excuses, is President of the Reproductive Choice Australia and Pro Choice Victoria groups, and is the adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Monash Institute of Health Services Research. And, in her spare time, she has somehow managed to pen a bestselling novel: The Book of Rachel.
