Beats Work
How It Works:
Starting in groups of around 30 people, your team will quickly learn the basics of the Samba rhythms and ‘breaks’, playing a kaleidoscope of instruments including surdos, snare drums, kettle drums, floor drums, cymbals, tambourines, tamborims, triangles, guiros, agogos, cuicas, cow bells and shakers.
They will learn the art of keeping time with their hips, reading audio and visual signals for ‘breaks’ (changes in the tune or tempo) and above all, that there is no room for the individual ego to dominate.
As confidence and ability grows, the smaller teams merge together in preparation for the stunning, thundering, uplifting crescendo as the entire group performs together in a pulsating performance of epic proportions. The kind of stuff that really makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Beats Work is infectious – people just can’t help getting involved. You’ll find even the most reserved characters are soon beaming from ear to ear and stomping their feet.
Why Beats Work:
If a sense of unity and shared achievement are important to your next event, then try Beats Work.
It’s amazing.
This concept can be designed and conducted to suit everything from an explosive team based fun experience to one that mirrors work place issues and themes.Beats Work has been scrupulously crafted as a 'corporate product' to challenge teams, reflect real issues and impose an important message in an evocative way with real and diverse instruments and musical patterns.
Key stages of event:
1. Optional high energy entrance by a Samba Band (facilitators) and your own company VIP’s (optional).
2. Short Samba-Reggae energiser session and briefing.
3. Teams move to workshop areas to master their performances.
4. Teams may actually create their own “team-break” songs with conference themes.
5. Return as one massive combined orchestra for the final performance.
WHY BEATS WORK IS DIFFERENT:
Beats Work uses the dynamic and varied rhythms of Samba Reggae with a myriad of different instrument types and sub units that must be brought together to achieve the crucial overall groove and sound (just like in a business). Opportunity is also taken for instrument group solo performances as well as team break songs that reflect conference themes and issues.
This is not only an effective challenge for a team , but it is also far more enjoyable and a very clear parallel with business and team dynamics.
You may notice that other people offer corporate drumming events. These are usually events based around “Djembe” drum circles using basically one type of instrument. We also have our own versions of these approaches on offer should you require them. Effective for fun and stress relief, the limitation of mono instrument rhythms may not challenge participants or serve as a clear illustration of required company messages and themes as Beats Work with its variations and complexities.
