Professor Geoffrey Blainey has established himself as one of the best known academics and commentators throughout Australia. He was Professor of Economic History at the University of Melbourne from 1968 to 1976, Ernest Scott Professor from 1977 to 1988 and has held a chair at Harvard.. Professor Blainey has been on numerous Government boards including chairman of the Australia Council and Chairman of the National Council for the Centenary of Federation. Professor Blainey is a witty speaker who has written over 35 books, of which the best known are "The Tyranny of Distance", “A Short History of the World” , “A Short History of the 20th Century” and "The Causes of War".
