Neil Evans is Fox Sports Australia’s anchor and “Face of Football” (soccer) – encapsulating the English Premier League, the up-coming Hyundai A-League, and major internationals including the Socceroos!
Boasting a highly creditable sporting, journalistic and communication background, Neil has risen as the face and high performer in cable television’s rise to prominence, particularly in the world of football (soccer), which is close to his heart.
More than nine years with Fox Australia, his viewer-friendly approach and knowledge to “live” sports presenting, interviewing techniques, panel-show discussion points and natural charisma and attitude have won him many fans across Australia.
Neil is the “face” of Fox Sports’ high-rating football coverage, including countless “live” games every week from the English Premier League, and major championships from around the world. He will also be the on-air anchor for the new Australian Hyundai A-League that will commence in six months.
Neil was the host of Fox’s live and exclusive coverage of Euro 2004 in Portugal, a month-long festival of football that attracted major ratings and feedback across the country.
Among his many roles, Neil was also the host of the very popular Inside Cricket program, and took the show to a new ratings level. There’s no doubt his knowledge, style, and very much ad-lib off-the-cuff approach is a major reason.
He also fronted Fox’s exclusive “live” coverage of the entire cricket tours of the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Neil Evans is also regarded among his peers and colleagues as one of the finest interviewers and sports commentators in the country, and it’s believed he will also front some major campaigns and debates over the next 12 months.
He is also a popular and much-sought after Master of Ceremonies for sporting functions and gala trivia nights, and has developed a real reputation for combining knowledge with entertainment.
Married to former Beauty & The Beast panelist Sharon, one of Sydney’s leading Pilates trainers, they have 2 young daughters, Bridgette, 7, and Lauren 4, and live in Balgowlah North on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Neil, a passionate follower of the Stoke City FC in England, is also a former top journalist for Sydney's Daily Mirror, a Herald and Weekly Times bureau chief, and a leading writer for magazines across the country.
An outstanding junior sportsman, Neil, a midfield player, was an outstanding performer at several national championships in soccer for the ACT. He was later a prolific first grade batsman for the North Sydney Cricket Club for 10 years, making the Shield squad, and playing professional county cricket in England.
Sporting Achievements
Represented the ACT in cricket, soccer, and athletics.
An outstanding schoolboy athlete, held numerous athletic records, and was chosen in Australian under 16 train-on soccer squad.
Represented NSW Country in cricket before signing with the North Sydney Club in 1984, aged 19. Played over 100 first grade games for the club, and spent a year in the NSW Sheffield Shield squad. Played professional county cricket in England in 1989 & 90, and has toured New Zealand as well.
