Expert commentary
Before giving his expert commentary at Channel 9, Paul Clitheroe had no experience at all in presenting to an audience. The success of his 'Money' program showed hij to be a natural. Around 3 million Australians tuned into the program each week to hear Paul’s common sense views on how to get the best from your money, whether you have a lot or a little!
Solid and practical financial advice
Solid and practical financial advice was the key to Paul Clitheroe's success in the media. Channel 9 executives recognised that he had a quality that made him a sure winner in the media spotlight. Paul Clitheroe is charming and approachable and can explain complex issues in ordinary language that his audiences find entertaining and illuminating.
Early career
Paul Clitheroe's early career did not foreshadow the media success he would go on to achieve. From an early age, he was interested in money matters. In 1979 after graduation from the University of NSW, Mr Clitheroe joined the financial industry as a research assistant. In 1983, he started IPAC Securities in a one room serviced office with four partners.
Today, IPAC manages over $12 billion dollars on behalf of its clients and advises some of the country’s leading superannuation funds.
Investment industry involvement
Paul Clitheroe has continued involvement in the investment industry, being elected to the Board of the Financial Planning Association in 1992. It did not take him long to establish himself as a leader, and he became its Vice President in 1993 and its President in 1994.
Journalist and author
Following on from his success in television, Paul Clitheroe has established his credentials as a journalist and author of many popular columns, articles and books. He has won an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Financial Planning Association and three IFA Magazine Awards for Excellence in Journalism.
His books, 'Money', 'More Money', and 'Making Money' sold over 300,000 copies - a rare achievement for an Australian non-fiction author.
Expertise recognised by government
Being recognised for your expertise at government level is something few in any industry can boast. Paul Clitheroe was appointed Chairman of the Consumer and Financial Literacy Taskforce to develop the first ever national strategy for consumer and financial literacy, targeting all Australians by Senator Helen Coonan. It was yet another feather in his well-decorated cap.
