Peter Russell-Clarke is an icon of the Australian food scene.

His name is synonymous with good food and wine yet he is considered a down-to earth Aussie. He wrote, produced and presented 900 TV shows for 197 of the Australian
Government owned national TV stations - the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) - and published a nationally distributed magazine which was edited by him as well as carrying his recipes and articles. Peter has also presented many radio food programs for the national Government network, as well as many commercial networks.He has written and illustrated 15 cookbooks and, at the moment, is having published an Encyclopedia of Food.

Peter has been food editor for several of Australia's major newspapers and magazines.He has appeared as a guest on all the national TV and radio talkback shows. Peter was senior cooking demonstrator for the now defunct Government Gas & Fuel Corporation. He has done, and still does, cooking demonstrations at the major shopping centres around the country.

Peter owned and was executive chef of Melbourne's most prestigious restaurant. He has cooked by invitation for Australia's Governors and State Premieres. Also by invitation cooked for the Prime Minister of Australia at the National Parliament house. Peter was also asked to cook the Silver Jubilee Dinner in Australia for HRH Prince Charles of England. Peter was, for many years, the Australian cooking correspondent for the house magazines of Shell, Ford, Dulux Paints and Imperial Chemical lndustries. He was the cooking writer for New Idea" Woman's Day, the newspapers The Daily Mirror, the Melbourne Age and The Truth and Observer.

For 27 years he was a TV and radio presenter for the Australian Dairy Corporation and Australian Egg Board. He also presented, for many years, the commercials for the citrus Board, Honey Board, Rice Board, Tea council, Avocado council and Macadamia Nut Corporation. Peter wrote and directed all these advertisements.

Peter also owned the advertising agency, Market Australia. For 7 years he presented, but did not write, the TV, radio and press advertisements for Kraft cheese throughout Australia. He wrote four cookbooks for Kraft. At present he is developing a cooking program for children as well as a TV program titled Good Food News. Peter still runs an advertising and marketing organization.

Life started creatively for Peter. He was delivered upside down to the consternation of his father, a defrocked priest, and his orphaned Catholic mother. His early life was a kaleidoscope of the unusual. He then joined George Patterson's AFI Department, where normality nurtured rebellion. A little later, the Sydney agency, Arthur Smythe, appointed Peter to their Production Department and then James Cushion Advertising to their copy writing desk. Australia's largest plastic production company appointed him as a creative writer, but after producing a Duperite plastic toilet seat brochure with the caption: "The outside is our business - what goes inside is yours.", Peter moved on to become The Melbourne Herald's political cartoonist.

He also wrote and drew Ben Bowyang and other national and international comic strips before producing 900 TV programs for the ABC, 150 for SBS, documentaries for Good Morning Australia, program segments for The Don Lane Show, The Paul Hogan show, The Peter Couchman Show and others. Peter was also the first creative Director for Monahan Dayman Advertising, Creative Director for DMB&B (Masius) where he handled the national account for The Australian Darry Corporation, The Australian Egg Boards and other accounts. Peter ran Market Australia Advertising as its chairman and Creative Director. The agency looked after Telecom, Mobil oil, Bp, Elders and other accounts. Peter was also the owner of Dayman Direct, a direct mail response agency.
