Award winning, critically acclaimed – Shane Jacobson is one of the most exciting rising talents in Australian right now. His star performance in the hit feature film Kenny has lead to a meteoric rise that actors often dream of, but few rarely attain.
For his warm and charismatic portrayal of the “fairdinkum Aussie bloke”, the title character Kenny, Shane Jacobson won the 2006 AFI Award for Best Lead Actor, the 2006 Film Critics Circle of Australia Award for Best Actor in a Lead Role and recently nominated at the 2007 Film Ink Magazine Awards for Best New Comer.
The multi-talented Shane was as instrumental in the success of the film off camera as well as on, having written the screenplay with his brother, film director Clayton Jacobson. For their efforts, they were also awarded the 2006 IF Awards for both Best Feature Film and Best Script and the 2006 Film Critics Circle of Australia Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Shane Jacobson, as Kenny, has won the hearts of filmgoers across Australia and New Zealand. But Shane Jacobson is no overnight sensation. His career on the stage began at the tender age of 10 with amatuer theatre, performing in Australia and overseas.
His comedic talents, which have garnered him so much praise in Kenny, were evident early on as well. At age 18 Shane began his comedy career with regular theatre restaurant, stand-up and MC gigs. It wasn’t long until the corporate world caught onto his talent for characterisation and a quick quip, hiring him to play to huge corporate functions impersonating business icons and luminaries.
Shane’s focus eventually moved towards the camera and he began acting in prominent Music Videos, Short Films and TV Commercials. He didn’t let go of live work though, continuing to perform audience Warm-Ups for all the major TV networks and as Half Time Entertainer for the Victorian Titans basket ball team.
His sharply honed performance and character skills were noticed by Melbourne’s Gold FM radio station, who in 1999 gave him a regular segment called The 60 Minute Challenge. Shane also created the colorful character voice of Sergio The Hairdresser. Sergio featured regularly on Gold FM’s Breakfast show.
Remarkably, Shane’s performance achievements existed alongside his successful business career as national general manager of an entertainment lighting and production company as well as lighting designer and production manager for the Rock & Roll, Corporate markets and Major Special Events industry - a skill base which proved instrumental in achieving and organizing some of KENNY’s larger set piece scenes.
Shane’s memorable character performance in KENNY marks his first lead role in a feature film.
