David Smorgon was for 25 years a senior executive and Director of Smorgon Consolidated which in 1995 was recognised as Australia's largest family business and valued at $1,200,000,000. David's responsibilities included being Chief Executive of a number of its major divisions, and the enormous growth the company experienced was in no small way due to what Smorgon calls his Five Rules for success.
As a life time supporter of the Footscray Football Club, David was invited to head the taskforce which reviewed the club in August 1996. With the club broke, the team down the bottom of the ladder and 24 players out of contract most people in David's position would have "Thrown in the Towel". However, that was not David's style and major changes recommended a new Board of Directors with David taking on the role of President. Under his leadership the club (now The Western Bulldogs) has experienced amazing success both on and off the field to restore the pride and respect that was part of Smorgonâs vision. In 1996 David Smorgon was also appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the Family Business Council which was established to help develop and assist family business organisations.
David Smorgon is a fascinating presenter who knows the requirements for success.
