Russell Morris is one of Australia’s most enduring singers. A major pop star in the latter sixties he went on to become one of the country’s first singer songwriters and, during the seventies led a popular rock band.
Russell Morris has been a pop idol with No. 1 hits like "Sweet, Sweet Love", "The Girl That I Love", "Wings of An Eagle", "Mr America", "Rachel" and of course, "The Real Thing". He's played giant shows of up to 100,000 people, he's worked in tiny clubs to audiences of 40.
Some of the most popular singers in the world, like Rod Stewart, John Denver, and Joe Cocker, have paid tribute to his songwriting abilities by earmarking his songs to be recorded. Elton John rates him as one of the finest talents in Australia.
In addition to his solo career, Russell is also part of the highly successful trio, Keays, Cotton and Morris, and as well as having a double album released in early April 2000, Russell's classic hit, "The Real Thing" has been named the AFL 2000 "Song of the Year". He also has two original songs in the Australian hit move "The Castle", and two songs in Kylie Minogue's new movie, "Sample People".
In late 2001 Ronnie Burns was replaced in the trio by Jim Keays of the Masters Apprentices.
