The Three Chinese Tenors have been acclaimed as “Australia’s answer to Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras” and have been described by the media & audiences alike as “an extraordinary phenomenon.” But unlike those European tenors, The Three Chinese Tenors have managed to put a whole new spin on opera.
To see them perform is a unique opportunity. For a first-time opera experience, or for the avid lover of this fine art, these dazzling voices will take you on a journey that begins in the West & ends in the East, from classical operatic arias to traditional Neapolitan songs, popular contemporary pieces, musical theatre & ancient Chinese folk songs.
What makes The Three Chinese Tenors stand out from the others is that not only are they three fine artists but true to their unique and inimitable style they will present a selection of songs & music accompanied by plenty of laughs, stories and aerial acrobatics & back flips, not often performed by tenors!
THEIR BACKGROUND
The founding member of The Three Chinese Tenors - Hao Zhou - began his singing career in Communist China, and was known as a singing child prodigy.
He came to Australia to study English & fulfil his dream of singing at The Sydney Opera House, only to be discovered while working as a kitchen hand at the Victorian Arts Centre restaurant. From that point on he became known as ‘The Kitchen Caruso’.
Hao was invited to the Australian National Vocal Symposium under the tutelage of Dame Joan Sutherland and Madam Marlena Malas and worked and studied with Maestro Richard Bonynge. He further went on to become a member of the Young Artists’ program for the Victoria State Opera.
As a principal operatic tenor, he has performed many roles in productions both with the Victoria State Opera and Opera Australia. As a tenor soloist, he has appeared with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and in a series of concerts with Canberra Symphony Orchestra & the Sydney Opera House Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Richard Bonynge.
With all of this to his credit, Hao established The Three Chinese Tenors.
